Chapter 1: That day

Looking back i should have seen the sighns. He was always watching me, always.
He would often follow me, just until i got to the house. But i always assumed he was spying on Dib.
I did not fear him, not then. He was full of himself to an almost laughable point. All his plans slipped through his hands like it was sand. What threat could he be?

I was wrong. As the years went by Zim changed. He became agressive, dark, and seemed to have given up on his schemes. He stayed away from us, despite Dib provokeing him. He just watched us from afar with a grin on his smug face. Annoying, but not world destroying, and so Dib began to leave him be as well.

Years went by and zim grew tall and slender. His wig he changed, now long and covering half his face. He would come to school and speak to no one, take no notes and do no homework but still passed every test given to him.

If i had been paying attention, if i had just looked closer at him, i could have prevented all of this. And yet...despite my regret, i want it to be this way.

It was a regular day as they walked to school, partly cloudy with a slight chance of rain. Dib walked along side her like he always did, hands jutted in his jean pockets causing his jacket to jut out behind him. His boots made a heavy sound with each step. She walked next to him as she always did, Head in a vedio game and eyes halfway closed. Her boots made a shuffling sound as she walked, as if she was dragging herself towards her destination. It was obvious the girl was annoyed with having to attend School.

Dib tilted his head" Hey Gaz. Its zim" He said stopping. Gaz glanced up from her game only for a moment, noting the tall green skinned boy standing in thire path. She went back to her game with a small grunt. Dib moved infront of her, protectivly. He had become that way after she began to develope and boys at school began to take an intrest in her. He was very over protective.

"Get out of the way Zim we are going to be late" he said glaring at the alien from under his glasses.

The tall alien stood there staring them down, bright blue eyes under long dark hair. All fake of course, his eyes, his hair, all of it. He smiled a strange and crule grin before holding up long gloved hands " I thought we could walk to school together today Dib. I have some things i need to say to you..." his voice was almost a hiss.

Dib frowned and glanced at Gaz" Why dont you go on ahead? ill catch up"
she shrugged and walked past him" Whatever. Like i care." she mutterd as she passed her brother. She walked towards Zim planning to pass him but he moved ever so slightly in the way so they brushed shoulders.

Suprised she glanced up at him and found herself caught in suprise. He was staring at her with a wide eye, the other hidden under his hair. His stair was intense like a predetor looking at his prey and his smile had vanished from his lips. Gaz opned her eyes wide for once, before quickly glancing away with a blink and walking ahead quickly. " what was that?" she thought not daring to look back at them. But she could feel his eyes following her.

Zim turned back to Dib once she rounded the corner and smirked at him" Its been a while since you and i have...talked Dib-stink. "
Dib snorted crossing his arms" Like we talk...What are you up to Zim? You wouldnt stop me like this unless your planning something"

"Correct" zim suddenly shouted moving foward arms outstreached" You are correct, ALWAYS CORRECT" he said wide eyed backing Dib into the wall. Dib looked startled, when had Zim become taller than him? And why the wild look in his eye.

Zim put his arms on ethire side of Dibs Gigantic head and leaned down" I am up to something. And you are the only one who can stop me Dib. Just like old times..."

Dib frowned and reached for something in his jacket but a long mechanical arm reached out and gripped dibs hand" Not so fast...See things are diffrent this time. Im not going to play nice." He smirked as more arms came flying out of his pack. Dib hardly had time to let out a shriek before his world became black.

It was already lunch and Gaz had not seen any clue of her brother. The other students had noticed this as well, seeing as Dib was always hovering over Gaz like a protective helicotper. As Gaz sat down to lunch she secretly wished that he was there, she felt eyes on her again.

A hand grabbed her shoulder and she felt her self stiffin. Fearfull it was Zim she turned to face who had touched her, and looked relived when it was only another student. But why had she been so afraid it was zim anyway? He had really gotten in her head this morning.

The young man smiled and took the seat next to her" Dib out sick or something?" he asked tilting his head.
She looked away with a groan" Skipping i guess" she answerd pulling out her game" Go away."
Another guy, most likely the first ones friend came to sat on the other side of her." Thats good, we never get a chance to talk to you with crazy Dib around."

She grunted annoyed and leaned over her game. Cant they take a hint?
The one boy leaned in closer" actually ive been wanting to talk to you for a pretty long time. If your free after school maybe..."
"no" she shot out without even looking up.

The boy frowned and snatched her game" Hey, at least look at me while im talking to you"
She glared at him reaching for her game" Give that back or die!!" she hissed. He laughed holding her back by grabbing her shoulder" You want it back? Go out with me today."

She slapped his hand" I said no. Now give it back!!"
He stood up and held it over his head with a smirk" come and get it" She growled and stood on the table tackling him to the ground. The other guy was suprised and reached down grabbing her by the waist picking her off the other boy" What is wrong with you!?"

The other boy sat up holding his head and tossed the game down smashing it" Stupid Bitch whats your problem?!"

She stared at her broken game with a look of rage and horror. With a scream so high pitched it hurt thire ears she elbowed the one holding her in the face and tackled the other again. She began to punch his face" I WAS ALMOST TO THE LAST LEVEL" she screamed.

Suddenly she was lifted in the air again, she turned to stuggle but became still when she came face to face with Zim. He was smiling at her and holding her by the waist he feet dangling above the floor. She lowerd her arms and tried to pull away" Zim!? leggo hes asking for it"

Zim smirked at her and suddenly pulled out another game" Here. This is for you..."
She took it in her hands with a suprised look and he put her on his feet" I believe its on the same level as you. And has the same powers" he pointed out patting her head.

She stared up at him in amazement before checking the game. It was if she was holding an exact copy of the one that was just smashed. When she looked back up though, Zim and both the boys were gone. She glanced around the cafatiera for them but it was if they vanished into thin air.

She noticed keith was staring and walked over to the red haired young man" where did zim and those jerks go"
Keith pointed up to the ventalation" Zim grew extra arms from is back pack, grabbed them and pushed himself and them up the vent" he said amazed." It was cool!! Zim rocks!"

Gaz raised a brow at Keith but turned to look at the vent" He...took the boys? ...hmph..I dont care they had it comming" She said looking down at her new game. A small smile spred across her lips as she sat down to play it. That had been pretty cool.

Gaz stood outside the school, the last bell had rang and there was still no sighn of Dib anywhere. She tapped her foot leaning against a pillar. It wasnt like Dib to not walk her to school, not come to school, and then make her go home alone. She sighed and gave up on waiting pulling out the game zim had given her and starting to walk down the street alone.

She didnt notice him walking beside her until he suddenly shouted" Look out for that puppy"
With a gasp gaz glanced up to see zim beside her as if he had been there all along, and with another gasp Gaz tripped over a rather dirty chiwawa. With a quick movement Zim caught her with one arm and helped her back on her feet. He smiled at her" Dib asked me to make sure you got home safely"

She looked at him with dought and then put the game away crossing her arms" Bull shit. Where is Dib Zim? Dad will start to notice if hes not around..."

Zim shrugged his shoulders with a small smug smile" I have no idea. Just like i have no idea where those two humans from lunch went. Or that puppy"
She looked behind her and noticed that the dog was gone. She huffed and glanced back at Zim" Ok, ill bite. What are you up to zim?"

Zim was quite for a bit suddenly reaching up and covering his mouth with his hand. He turned his back to her. She titled her head and frowned" Hey, dont ignore me"

He suddenly burst into laughter causing her to jump back. It was a strange laugh, as if he was actually in pain. He turned to face her with a large grin showing his teeth, but his eyes were filled with rage" Ignore you?! IGNORE YOU?"
he wrapped his arms around his waist and bent over laughing more. Gaz took a few steps back with a worried expression. what was WRONG with him?!

He stood up strait and ran a hand through his fake hair with a sigh" If you want to see Dib again...Come to my house. Ill keep him until you do...so if you dont want to see him then dont come." He said brushing past her. She frowned and began to follow" H-hey...You cant keep Dib today, We are supposed to meet Dad! So play your games with him later!"

Zim glanced over his shoulder at her with a smile" Hes not going anywhere for a while Little Gaz. He will be staying with me until YOU come to get him. Gir will let you in" He said and countied to walk away towards his house.

Gaz stood watching him walk. Something wasnt right, the way he was acting, it wasnt like the Zim she knew. He never invovled her in his shcemes. He never gave her that look before, and he never had given her a gift. A sickly feeling made its way into her stomic. She had a terrible feeling something bad was going to happen.

With a worried expression she briskly made her way down the sidewalk towards Zims house. Despite her fear, she couldnt keep her curiousty out of it.
She had to know what was going on. Besides, if she didnt bring Dib home her Dad would cancel family night.
